John Kerry Gets A Pair?

Almost. Take a gander:

Still stung by accusations of his own flip-flopping, U.S. Sen. John F. Kerry yesterday put the shoe on the other foot, accusing former Gov. Mitt Romney of being the real chameleon of presidential politics and jabbing him with the same painful taunts that helped sink Team Kerry in 2004.

“Let’s be very clear. I had not changed my positions and they played a game with that,” Kerry said of his Republican opponents in the 2004 race.

By contrast, he said, Romney is far more deserving of the flip-flopper label. “He’s changed on abortion, he’s changed on gay rights and he’s changed on marriage,” Kerry said. “He’s changed on guns and he’s changed on the war. That’s pretty significant. I think people are asking the question out there, ‘Who is he, really?’ ”

Sure sounds like he's grown a pair (too bad it took him so long to do it) But alas, he gets slapped back like a hooker who's holding out on her pimp.

A Romney spokesman quickly returned fire yesterday, charging that Kerry is harboring the delusions of a fallen contender.

“This is a textbook case of Freudian projection,” Eric Fehrnstrom said. “John Kerry is projecting his own undesirable traits onto other people. It’s a mild form of personality disorder. Usually, it’s not a cause for concern unless it shows up in a U.S. senator.”

Ouch. I was ALMOST rooting for Kerry since he started looking like he had grown a pair and was going on the offensive, but alas, he got verbally smacked back into place. Sad really, you'd think that the guy would know when to keep his mouth shut, but you'd be wrong. :)

Right, let me get this straight. Kerry points to several areas where Romney has flipflopped. Romney's people obfuscate and then ADMIT they've flipflopped on prime issues.

That is a form of politics that shouldn't be supported because, once again, it obscures the main issues. Over here in the UK, the departed PM Tony Blair was often accused of using 'spin' as a means to bewilder the opponent, and often to the detriment of politics.

I'm not saying that Kerry doesn't have a point, I'm saying that he's gotten such a reputation for being a pussy, that anytime he points out a flaw in someone else that he shares with, he's slapped back and he doesn't retaliate.

He's earned that reputation as a pussy. When the whole "swift boat" thing was going on, he said nothing for a very long time. When he does nothing to react to attacks against himself of that magnitude, I question his backbone in dealing with attacks on other fronts.

When you question a potential President's backbone, it's almost a guaranteed loss.

I would gladly do that with all politicians, even Republicans. For example, the latest Vitter scandal, if he had said nothing, then I would tend to believe that he had indeed been with a hooker.

I'd rather a politician who was for one side and then another explain the reasons behind it. We all change our minds on various issues, however, when you jump ship and don't explain yourself, you have people wondering what happened. For example, if Kerry had said "I voted against the funds for the troops because it had earmarks that I didn't agree with" or "it wouldn't fund them properly and take care of outstanding issues" in his famous vote, I think it would have been a totally different ball game.

But he didn't, and people rightfully questioned his intestinal fortitude.
