United Airlines parent company UAL Corp. reported its biggest quarterly profit in seven years Tuesday, a $274 million gain that reflected fuller planes during a busy summer travel season, cost reductions and especially strong results from its international flights.Well that's good news! So if they have a $274 million dollar quarterly profit, when can the American taxpayer expect a payback of the billions in bailout money we gave you for your 9/11 fuck up? When can we expect a little bit of "hey, thanks for being there for us when we needed you, so here's the money back now that we're back in the black"
We bailed out various airlines after 9/11 because of the financial devastation that it would have had on those industries. That was fine with me, but I consider it more of a loan, then a gift. We bailed out United and American airlines when it was painfully obvious that they were about to get sued into oblivion. The VERY least that they can do is offer to pay back at least SOMETHING when financial times are good for them. I'm not saying pay back all $274 million in profits they have, but say a nice $25 million dollar check would be nice. When they are in the black, they give the government a bit of their profits as a "thank you". When they are in the red, they get a slide....up to a point.
Had we allowed United and American airlines to be sued into oblivion, you can bet your ass that other airlines would be taking security MUCH more seriously then they do now.
