52-47 was the final vote for the "all nighter" that Harry Reid promised us all. So, what did this all accomplish? A big, fat bag of nothing. What it does show is who's on what side of the issue of Iraq. I have absolutely no problem with the Iraqi security forces taking over day to day operations while our guys do intelligence and terrorist hunts, but to give any kind of time line will defeat the purpose of a war. It says "hold out until this date" then we're outta here.
Would you tell your enemy that you're leaving? That makes zero sense. Al-Qaeda has already said that Iraq is the front lines against us, so why give them the opportunity for a propaganda victory? It's a cowards way out to pack up and leave the Iraqi's to fend for themselves.
