Representative Bennie G. Thompson wants to strip out a provision in a bill that would make people who report suspicious activities immune from being sued.
Read that again if you'd like.
What that means is, if you're in an airport, and you see someone or a group of people who are acting suspicious, those who you report could sue you.
That means that actor James Woods could have been sued by the people who committed the terrorist attacks on 9/11 because he reported their suspicious activity during a dry run to the flight attendant.
The FAA did not investigate it because they thought it was racial profiling.
This guy is too dangerous to be in power. He is actively siding with terrorists and doesn't give a shit if you get sued because the attack wasn't carried out or the police don't have enough evidence to arrest or convict.
What that means is, is that people will be hesitant to report anything until it is too late. The general public is the first line and sometimes the last line of defense against an attack and to strip them of protections they rightfully deserve, is almost treasonous.
Now, that's not to say that there would be circumstances where someone was wrongfully reported. However, "good faith" is what separates lawsuit from protection. If I help someone out of a mangled car accident and I break their arm in the process, I'm ok because I'm acting on good faith. However, if I go to that same car accident and intentionally inflict pain on that person, I deserve to get sued.
This all comes from the "flying imam" case. The people involved were acting in good faith because these people were in similar positions around the plane like the 9/11 attackers, they asked for seatbelt extensions even though they didn't need them, and they were being belligerent. So, they were either terrorists or they were yanking the chain of the airlines in hopes of a lawsuit win. Either way they deserve a healthy smackdown from lawyers for the airlines and those who reported them. I hope that they get countersued for everything they own.
