Wow, the sheer level of inaccuracies here boggles the mind:
More than one million Iraqis have died as a result of the conflict in their country since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003, according to research conducted by one of Britain's leading polling groups.
The survey, conducted by Opinion Research Business (ORB) with 2,414 adults in face-to-face interviews, found that 20 percent of people had had at least one death in their household as a result of the conflict, rather than natural causes.
The last complete census in Iraq conducted in 1997 found 4.05 million households in the country, a figure ORB used to calculate that approximately 1.03 million people had died as a result of the war, the researchers found.
The margin of error in the survey, conducted in August and September 2007, was 1.7 percent, giving a range of deaths of 946,258 to 1.12 million.
So, in other words, they took a small cross section of the population, did a survey, then multiplied it out to get the 1 million dead figure?
Plus, they don't see HOW these people died, only that they died as a result of the conflict. That means that if insurgents killed people, they'd count it, if they ran out into the street and were hit by a humvee, they'd count it.
This study is filled with holes that can lead to wild numbers, and Reuters should be ashamed of itself for publishing something so inflammatory.
If you want to put that into perspective, that means that in the roughly 5 years of this war, 547 people have had to have died EACH AND EVERY DAY for those 5 years. It's simply impossible for that amount of people to have been killed.
Even according to Iraqi volunteers who bury their dead, they had a height of 2,000 dead per month. That means that if they are correct, then there's roughly 120,000 dead, not 1,000,000.
It's easy for dumb people to latch onto figures like this and run with it, case in point:
Then they back peddle faster then an Olympic swimmer going for the gold when caught showing their true colors.
So, you need to nip these wild "studies" in the ass before idiots out there start to take them as gospel.
