Democrats Reject Key 9/11 Panel Suggestions
I told you Democrats were weak on terrorism. Now it seems like they are proving me right. Just wait until they try to gut the PATRIOT act or the NSA's wiretapping programs and we're attacked again then claim that the war in Iraq was the root cause and there was nothing that could be done to stop it. Make no mistake, we're threatened on a daily basis, and I'd rather we have a politician that won't take shit from anyone and make more enemies by going after those that pose a threat to us then a politician that just sits idly by and does nothing but piss and moan about how more could be done and how it was someone else's fault, but they don't want to take any action that would have prevented it in the first place.

Can I Be Heartless For A Moment?
The young woman profiled here came the realization that she would be better off on food stamps and welfare then working at Target. Now, I don't mind raising the minimum wage because raising 3 children on 5 bucks and hour is pretty much impossible. Granted she now works at DirecTV, but I have a few problems with her situation.
First off. Where's the father of these children? Why is he not paying child support? Why is he not taking care of his children like any real man would? That would probably help take care of a big portion of her financial needs.
Secondly, why is it that she cannot take college courses and better her life and the lives of her children? She's a grown up and should know that working entry level jobs for the rest of her life isn't going to cut it. We've all had minimum wage jobs that we've hated, but it takes guts, drive, and ingenuity to make your life better for yourself. Grants are certainly available if she applied herself. She could certainly get a better job once she completed college.
I busted my ass getting to where I am in life. I've certainly had entry level jobs that paid practically nothing and have faced bankruptcy many times in my life. The difference is that I used the options that were available to me to the fullest potential and now I'm merely trying to convince this woman to do the same thing.
One thing everyone needs to understand is that when you raise minimum wage, everyone pays for it. That $3 cup of Starbucks coffee will become $3.50. Starbucks isn't going to eat and extra $2 an hour and not pass that cost off to us. So, feel free to raise the minimum wage, just don't bitch about it when you find out it's costing everyone.

So the 6 guys are now complaining that they are being treated unfairly and how people should be more sensitive to them. Well how about they be sensitive to everyone else around them? They should be sensitive enough to know that moving seats and "praying" would upset people and make them think that they could be a threat. One guy has the nerve to say that he's got a "double whammy" because he's guilty of "driving while black" and "flying while Muslim". Well suck it up. I'm guilty of "being white". What does that mean? In the end more than 24,000,000 people lost their lives in WWII. It was one of, if not the number one, the worst loss of life conflicts in history. If we decided to massacre everyone within Iraq (which would NEVER happen) the conflict could be over within a matter of months. However, street to street fighting with an unknown enemy who doesn't wear a uniform, who pretends to be a civilian can make the fighting go a lot longer and is more dangerous then anyone can anticipate.

Hi Scott, guess you can imagine I've been a little busy. Wow this is so crazy . . . Scott this was almost (10) ten years ago. Why are they coming with this issue now? Were the statutes of limitation running out or what? We thought all issues had been resolved. Guess not, huh? Like the situation in New York, and Florida, I know this has more to do with a few individuals with access to power, making moves (trying to move up!) and less with some alleged crime against the whole population of the United States of America. This reminds me of Rape cases where the "victim" is flipped, turned or converted into the role of victimizer, the "architect conspirator." It appears I'm to be the scapegoat, because there's more public interest in "celebrities gone bad" than "rich people being taken advantage of."
Being, a black male who asks questions doesn't help the situation either. But this is a serious issue, NO, a very serious issue that I am not taking lightly one bit. I will abide by the law, seek the protections the law affords me and as always seek the advice of competent council in effort to resolve this issue. I'm not running, I'm not a fugitive, despite the misrepresentations in the press . . .

I recall mentioning to you once before, when they were trying to steal the Florida house, it's a lot deeper than that! The Most Important Document Of Your Life
Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
This also states that you can practice any religion you'd like. That means ANY religion. Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Islam, Satanism, even something you've made up in your head. As long as you aren't doing things like sacrificing the neighbors cat, which violates laws against animal cruelty, you can do pretty much anything you'd like. Want to talk to your fish and worship them for the Gods of the sea that they are? Go for it. No one cares. Certain extremist types might get all preachy on you, but fuck em, it's not their business what your religion is.
Freedom of the Press means that anyone may print anything they'd like as long as it's true. There were many times where something undesirable would be printed about the King of England and he could tell the press not to print it and they had no choice but to not print it or have bad things happen to them. President Bush can ask that something not be printed for various reasons, but the press has no responsibility to the President or anyone else not to print it.
Freedom to peaceably assemble. This is the key word; peaceably. If you get together with 10,000 of your fellow countrymen and start rioting, you will be thrown in jail. If you want to march down the sidewalks and protest something, it is your right to do so. Dissent is important in any society as it brings a different point of view to the table of a particular issue. Just as Jules and Vincent in Pulp Fiction debate on the subtlety of a foot massage and it's inherit meaning, it's important to see things from the opposite side of the fence.
Amendment II
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
I've covered this enough in my previous posts, so I won't go into too great of detail, but the bottom line is that you have the right to own a firearm. No limits are ever pointed to in the Second Amendment, so in theory, laws governing machine guns, silencers, and other such things are technically illegal because "the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." Who's to say that I can own a AR-15, but not a Browning .30 caliber machine gun? Both are firearms and both allow me to defend myself and my family from outside threats. One just allows me to defend my home against things like helicopters and APC's much better.
Now we get into the lesser known Rights.
Amendment III
No soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.
There was a time when a soldier could just barge into your home or you could be told to take in a soldier in wartime or peacetime and there wasn't a thing you could do about it. The founding fathers made sure that this wouldn't happen again. However, if you took in a soldier during peacetime or wartime, you can, but it then becomes your responsibility.
Amendment IV
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
This is the hot button issue right now with warrantless wiretapping going on at the particular moment in time. It states that you have the right to privacy unless a warrant has been issued to search your house and belongings. There has to be "Probable Cause" otherwise, the warrant is invalid. That means that an officer of the law has to suspect you of a crime and provide a reason for that suspicion. Otherwise, the warrant issued would be invalid and anything found during that search would be thrown out. You could have tons of Cocaine and thousands of machine guns in your home, but if the warrant is invalid, they can't use it against you.
Amendment V
No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a grand jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the militia, when in actual service in time of war or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.
This is the Amendment that people refer to when you hear them say "I plead the fifth". It means you have the right against self incriminations. So if you are arrested, shut up. It also protects someone from being tried twice for the same crime, even if evidence is found later proving the person is guilty. This is why OJ can never be tried again for the murders he was acquitted of. It also states that you cannot be have your stuff taken from you without due process of the law and you must be compensated if your stuff is taken for public use. The Zapruder film showing John F. Kennedy's assassination was put into the public archives and the Zapruder family was compensated for it because of this law. The Federal government thought that this film was so important, that it needed to be a part of the public domain.
Amendment VI
In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the state and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the assistance of counsel for his defense.
This is the "You have the right to an attorney" when you are read your Miranda rights. This also is the right that you are allowed to not have to sit in jail for a long time while awaiting trial. You have the right to confront your accusers and have the right to a public jury trial. This is to help prevent someone from getting thrown in jail and the keys thrown away by a corrupt system.Amendment VII
In suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise reexamined in any court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law.
You have the right to a trial by jury. Pretty self explanatory.
Amendment VIII
Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.
This one is extremely important as it allows you to not be punished for a crime in a "cruel and unusual" way. This allows everyone to have punishment met out while still allowing them some dignity. This also means that you won't be seeing $1 million dollar bail for jaywalking.
Amendment IX
The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.
You have more rights then listed here in the Constitution.
Amendment X
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.
States and the people can make up additional laws that are not covered in the Constitution.
There you have it. A quick and dirty view of what makes America, America. Sometimes we get caught up in the moment when it comes to the security and prosperity of our nation, but we should never forget that it's these 10 simple laws that form the foundation of what makes up the core of who we are.

First, he says "If the word nigger comes out of your mouth and you aren't African-American, you have some explaining to do" My response is why? Why does Chris Rock get to use the word but I do not? I don't use the word in my vocabulary, however how is it fair that certain people can use it but I cannot? Would it be fair if African-Americans couldn't use the word "Cracker"? Or "Honky"? Or "White Devil"? Of course not, that would be taking away from their freedom of speech. Now, I have every right to be offended if someone uses those words with malice, but I'm not about to take away their right to say what they want. But there in lies the difference; malice. Malice is what makes you a racist for saying "nigger", not merely the word. I've been called "nigga" by African-American friends of mine, and there's clearly no malice involved. "Nigga" and "nigger" are the same words, I do not care if you spell them differently.
Secondly Paul Rodriquez also states "Freedom of speech has its limitations and I think that Michael Richards crossed that line". Paul is half correct in this one instance. Freedom of speech does have its limitations. However, the limitations are only when you infringe on other peoples rights. Threats are one of those limitations. You cannot threaten someone and claim freedom of speech because you are trying to intimidate or coerce someone else. Some of the things that Michael Richards did say could be construed as threatening speech, however simply calling someone a name is not, unfortunately for Michael Richards, it appears that he didn't merely say "You're a nigger". He said "I have enough money to have you arrested". That can easily be interpreted as a threat.
Race relations are always a hot button for many people. Many people might be offended by my merely asking "Why" when I just really want to know the answer to "Why". People who know me personally know I don't have a thread of racism in my heart and I show it by the friends and family members in my life, just in case you were wondering.

Hillary Clinton is another popular choice among Democrats, but with Barak and Hillary, there's more then just qualifications that need to be looked at. Unfortunately, there are people who are not ready for a black man or a woman to be President. You can send me hate mail all you want, but do you really think that out of 300 million people, there isn't one that doesn't think; "There's no way in hell I'd vote for a woman"? I don't mind personally what color or gender the candidate is, as long as they share the same personal beliefs that I do when it comes to running the country. Regardless of how people feel about gender or race, it's important to look at voting records. To me, that's what matters most about a candidate. You could be a Republican, but vote for Gun Control that would want me to vote you out quicker then anything.
Unfortunately for Democrats, their core beliefs are strictly against my own and that is why I continually vote against them.

The Draft Is Coming, But It's Coming From Democrats!
Representative Rangel wanted to bring back the draft in 2003 as well. Of course, when both the House and the Senate were controlled by the Republican's, it was soundly defeated because Republican's don't believe in the draft. But, now that both parts of Congress are controlled by the Democrats, do you feel that it will be so soundly defeated this time around?
I am personally against a draft of any kind. I don't think taking people who aren't cut out for military life against their will and putting them in the middle of a combat zone will accomplish much. In fact, it could be worse in that they could make decisions on the battlefield that can get them or their fellow soldiers killed.
It's quite possible that this guy will be looked upon as an idiot and his determination to get a draft reinstated will be soundly defeated, but I think it's rather odd that John Kerry, right before the 2004 presidential elections said in a nutshell "If you vote Bush, he'll reinstate the draft and you'll be in Iraq in no time" and then when it didn't happen, no one stood up and called John Kerry a the liar that he is. Then, all of a sudden, you have this whackjob trying to put in a draft so that congressmen and women would think twice if they "thought that their kids from their communities would be placed in harm's way".

Just once, I'd love to see a video of a parent dealing with a school official in this situation and see the school official declare "I can plainly see that your parenting skills are the root cause of your child being a spoiled brat. Perhaps if you were a better parent, we wouldn't be having this conversation." I'd have to buy that school official a beer. :) Kids no a days don't seem to understand just how good they have it. When I was growing up, if you were at the principals office, your parents first asked "what did you do". Not "what did the school official do". Plus, teachers had the right to spank your little ass with a wooden paddle if you got out of line, even in front of the class, pants down.

Soldier Admits Rape And Murder
These men, if the charges are proven true, will have brought dishonor to his fellow soldier. It is actions like these that make other soldier's lives much more difficult and feeds the propaganda machine for the insurgents. Of course, I know that these actions, if true, are an extremely small fraction of the amount of honorable soldiers serving. I am hoping that the charges are not true, but things don't look very good right now. I'm not willing to "throw them under a bus" quite yet, but from what I have read, there is strong evidence that a horrible crime has been committed here.

But of course, Michael Hirsh, author of the above linked article didn't think of that. He just wanted the comfort of thinking he went the moral high road and can sleep a little better at night under the umbrella of freedom that is provided by the very men and women he'd like to yank out of the battlefield before the mission is complete. Real men don't turn tail and run. Real men don't let people in need suffer and die. And real men don't knife people in the back when others are trying to do an honorable thing.

Waterboarding - See It Yourself
While I disagree with Alan Dershowtiz's stance on torture and think that any method that can extract valuable, accurate intelligence that can save American lives is worth it, I do agree with his idea for a compromise. His idea is a "torture warrant". Basically if the President or any high ranking official signs a warrant saying that "X" techniques may be used to extract information from a suspect. Personally, I'd rather torture a man to death then know that my pussy footing around made any information the suspect had useless because it was too late and innocent men, women and children died because of it. But that's just me being a big old softie when it comes to my fellow Americans. And yes, that includes EVERY American, black, white, Jew, Arab, Christian or Muslim.

Veteran's Day
Thank you. I don't mean a simple thank you that you would say to someone who brought you an extra thing of ranch and the local Red Robin, I'm talking about a heartfelt, "I cannot thank you enough" type of thank you.
Soldiers come from all walks of life, but have one simple goal, serving their country. They do things that you and I can only imagine. They face threats that lesser people would coward from. I've said "thank you" to perfect strangers in uniform. At first, they generally wonder what they did, then they get a little smirk on their face and give me a nod in return. I've stopped when soldiers have been stuck on the side of the road with a broken down car. I have a rule about stopping for stranded motorists. If you are a woman, I'll stop for you. If you are a senior citizen, I will stop for you. If you are a father with more then one child, I will stop for you. If you are a man and not in uniform for me to identify you as a soldier, you are on your own. You are a man, you should be able to stand up, dust yourself off, and walk to the nearest pay phone.
The only exception to my rules is if I am driving out in the middle of nowhere and you are stuck. You will receive my help, even if you only need to use my cell phone.
I'd like to take this post to thank the two veterans in my life. First up, Tim.
My friend Tim was in the Navy a long time ago. He'll go into stories about this or that, and chat with me about his computer problems, which I gladly fix. He'll tell me he's thinking about re-enlisting because the benefits are better for his new wife and 4 daughters (sheesh, 4 girls and a wife. He's the only guy.....) Anyways, when I chat with him about such things, the underlying tone of his conversation is "I want to do what's best for my girls". It's never about "I'd like to go kill someone" or "I'd like to go play with missiles again." He's constantly thinking about ways to make life better for himself and his family. His way of thinking is what makes him a good Sailor.
Next up: Grandpa.
Grandpa "lunatic" is more near and dear to my heart for many reasons. Duty, honor, loyalty, family, are all words that he takes seriously and has done so for the past 70+ years. Grandpa was also in the Navy, but in the 1940's. When my father and I went to go live with him when I was very young, he made sure to save his Hostess cupcakes for me from his lunches when he got home because he knew I liked them. He'd take me fishing and let me reel in the fish from his fishing pole because I wouldn't fish properly. I'd play "worm water skiing" with my fishing pole. He'd get a bite and then he'd hand me the reel and say "you got one Travis, reel him in" and then give credit to me to everyone back home. I think I was around 3-5 years old at the time.
When we'd go hunting around age 5-7, he'd let me hold his rifle. We'd never get a deer because I made too much noise. I'd talk normally and you could hear the echo in the mountains very clearly. Deer were much smarter then I was back then. :) On our drive home, I'd mention we didn't get any deer, and he'd always say "Well it must be because you're such a great hunter. They were too scared to come out of their hiding places."
Grandpa would always lead by example. When my father became a flake and abandoned me at a young age, Grandpa made sure that I had a father figure in him. He'd never give you advice that he didn't already use or believe in. Some of his kids (my aunts and uncles on my fathers side) didn't turn out to be responsible, outstanding members of the community. My aunt, his only daughter, is constantly whining about how life is unfair and how difficult it is to get a job. She's moved back in with him more times then I can remember. She's 10 years older then me and I don't understand why she can't seem to get what life, responsibility and being an adult is all about. I've seen her borrow $50 from Grandpa when he knows she's not going to pay him back. His honor and commitment to family overshadows his reservations about giving her money he needs himself. I've had many conversations with her and have scolded her about Grandpa's finances. I told her he should be taking cruises to exotic locations and having his way with Grandma whenever he likes. He should be taking Grandchildren fishing or working out in his shop making something fun for himself. But it's Grandpa. You can tell him your concerns all you want, but he'll just tell you "She's family." and you know he's right.
So after all the times Grandpa's taken me under his wing and led by example on how to be a man, I finally found a way to give a small token of appreciation to Grandpa. Warning: I'm gonna gloat here a bit.
Growing up, Grandpa and I would watch boxing together. We'd bet a quarter on who would win and he would almost always win, but he'd never make me pay for it (I'd usually do chores or something to pay off the quarter). Anyways, Grandpa's never had a TV bigger then 20". I don't know how he can stand it personally. I know Grandpa's never had a TV bigger then that because he's always making sure that his kids are taken care of, even if his kids are Grandparents themselves and still haven't figured out if you mouth off to your boss, you'll find yourself out of a job. So, I had a house built a little while ago, and was living with a friend of mine up at his place while it was under construction. I was planning a theater room with a new projector and the whole nine yards. Well once construction was complete, I had my old 65" HDTV that I had no room for. So, I had the idea to give it to Grandpa. With some help from some very large men, I brought Grandpa his new TV.
The first thing we did after hooking everything up was turn on a boxing match. It took me back 30 years to when I was sitting on Grandpas lap screaming at the guy in the green trunks to get up off the floor. You could see the pride in his eyes because everyone generally uses Grandpa as a bank and someone was recognizing all the hard work that he put in to making sure that kids were fed and toes had shoes and heads had roofs over them.
Grandpa, Thank you very much for your service to your country. Thank you for showing me by example what it is to be a man. Grandpa lives and breathes what it means to be a soldier.

China - Friend Or Foe
I think what bothers me most is our lack of response. We're afraid to call them out on the things that we're doing and we're not spying back on them hard enough. Read the article, it clearly states that Admiral William J. Fallon has restricted intelligence gathering against China for fear of being found out and the consequences of damaging relations with China. We should be actively spying against China to find out what they are trying to find out about us. If they find out about it, they should be told "well you do it to us, we only thought it was fair". Let them taste what it's like to be spied on and have their military secrets exposed.
Although I am wondering why we aren't doing something more aggressive about it, maybe there's no reason to? Is China's military that unsophisticated? They are trying to steal secrets from us so they don't have to research and develop their own. Perhaps they are so far behind that they feel the need to do this? My gut feeling on it is that they need to be told "if we do military exercise with you in the future, you will show use your command and control center like we've shown you. Otherwise, you won't get another exercise with us."
