China - Friend Or Foe

China has lately been poking it's nose around our military a lot lately. I'm very concerned that they may be preparing for a showdown with us over Taiwan. Just google "Titan Rain" and you'll see all the shenanigans that they have been doing over the past few years. War games where we show them our stuff but they won't show theirs, actively stalking our aircraft carriers, spy rings being broken up, none of those things points towards an open and friendly relationship with a massive trade partner.

I think what bothers me most is our lack of response. We're afraid to call them out on the things that we're doing and we're not spying back on them hard enough. Read the article, it clearly states that Admiral William J. Fallon has restricted intelligence gathering against China for fear of being found out and the consequences of damaging relations with China. We should be actively spying against China to find out what they are trying to find out about us. If they find out about it, they should be told "well you do it to us, we only thought it was fair". Let them taste what it's like to be spied on and have their military secrets exposed.

Although I am wondering why we aren't doing something more aggressive about it, maybe there's no reason to? Is China's military that unsophisticated? They are trying to steal secrets from us so they don't have to research and develop their own. Perhaps they are so far behind that they feel the need to do this? My gut feeling on it is that they need to be told "if we do military exercise with you in the future, you will show use your command and control center like we've shown you. Otherwise, you won't get another exercise with us."
