Well maybe John Kerry was right in proclaiming that the draft might be coming back. But just as usual, John Kerry was wrong in one aspect; it's coming from his own party. Representative Charles Rangel D-NY wants to bring back the draft for individuals ages 18-26. Which is odd because didn't George W. Bush (Hitler in the eyes of many Democrats) state that he was vehemently opposed to a draft? So tell me Democrats and everyone that voted for them, if this gets passed and you are drafted, where will do your "pie in the sky" thoughts and ideals about the Democratic party be then?
Representative Rangel wanted to bring back the draft in 2003 as well. Of course, when both the House and the Senate were controlled by the Republican's, it was soundly defeated because Republican's don't believe in the draft. But, now that both parts of Congress are controlled by the Democrats, do you feel that it will be so soundly defeated this time around?
I am personally against a draft of any kind. I don't think taking people who aren't cut out for military life against their will and putting them in the middle of a combat zone will accomplish much. In fact, it could be worse in that they could make decisions on the battlefield that can get them or their fellow soldiers killed.
It's quite possible that this guy will be looked upon as an idiot and his determination to get a draft reinstated will be soundly defeated, but I think it's rather odd that John Kerry, right before the 2004 presidential elections said in a nutshell "If you vote Bush, he'll reinstate the draft and you'll be in Iraq in no time" and then when it didn't happen, no one stood up and called John Kerry a the liar that he is. Then, all of a sudden, you have this whackjob trying to put in a draft so that congressmen and women would think twice if they "thought that their kids from their communities would be placed in harm's way".
