Ok, so just about everyone can agree that we need to get off of foreign oil right? Even the most liberal Democrat can agree upon that. So then it makes no sense when people protest us drilling in our own back yard for oil.
Bush administration officials insisted Thursday that oil exploration in the Chukchi Sea off Alaska can proceed without threatening polar bears that depend on the sea ice. But that didn't convince a senior House lawmaker, who demanded that Interior Department Secretary Dirk Kempthorne delay the oil leases until after a determination is made on whether to list polar bears as endangered or threatened.
Make up your mind people, either we need to get off of foreign oil or we don't. If we do, we need to explore other areas where there are oil deposits. It's not brain surgery here I'm talking about. Yes, the polar bears do need protecting, but the problem still remains that we have oil producing countries who have us right where they want us and we need to change that.
Whether you like to believe it or not, we are weaning ourselves off of foreign oil. That's why when President Bush went to Saudi Arabia recently and asked for them to lower the price, he was told "no".
CAFE standards for gas mileage on all cars and trucks sold in America has been raised. Car companies are experimenting with hybrid and electric cars left and right. And we are exploring our own oil reserves.
When we are self sufficient in our oil needs, the price of oil is going to plummet. No demand, no sky high prices. Simple as that.
