The Olympic Fakes

Is ANYTHING in China real??

First, they fake the opening fireworks:

Not all was what it seemed during the spectacular opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics.

Beijing organizers confirmed Tuesday that some of the fireworks display featured prerecorded footage.

Fireworks that burst into the shape of 29 gigantic footprints were shown trudging above the Beijing skyline to the National Stadium near the start of the ceremony.

Though the footprint-shaped fireworks were real, some of the footage shown to television viewers around the world and on giant screens inside the "Bird's Nest" stadium featured a computer-generated three-dimensional image.

Of course, appeasing CNN calls it "enhancing".

Now, they've admitted that the little girl who sang at the opening ceremony, wasn't the one you heard.

The little girl who starred at the Olympic opening ceremony was miming and only put on stage because the real singer was not considered attractive enough, the show's musical director has revealed.

Pigtailed Lin Miaoke was selected to appear because of her cute appearance and did not sing a note, Chen Qigang, the general music designer of the ceremony, said in an interview with a state broadcaster aired Tuesday.

Photographs of Lin in a bright red party dress were published in newspapers and websites all over the world and the official China Daily hailed her as a rising star on Tuesday.

But Chen said the girl whose voice was actually heard by the 91,000 capacity crowd at the Olympic stadium during the spectacular ceremony was in fact seven-year-old Yang Peiyi, who has a chubby face and uneven teeth.

Here's a picture of the girl who sang on the right, and the one you saw on the left.

It reminds me of Russia in the 50's and 60's.  They had a GREAT reputation for being a fearsome foe, but when you got beneath the hype, they were full of shit, and had no substance.

And of course, with China badmouthing us left and right, I'm certainly going to point out their flaws as well. :)

One Mom, Five Kids said...

Whether in the US, China or anywhere it always ticks me off when adults bring kids into this 'you gotta be this way' type of crap. Then people wonder why everyone is growing up being so superficial these days. They are just kids for pete sake - most kids out there do have cricked or missing teeth - so what?
