You see when Obama agreed to allow Hillary's name on the ballot at the upcoming Democratic National Convention, my first thought was "he's making a major mistake".
And here's why.
First off, there's the perception that he's caving to Hillary and her supporters because he needs all the votes he can get. He's either tied or winning VERY slightly in the majority of the polls so far. So, many Americans who are on the fence might rightfully question his judgement: "If he caves to Hillary, how's he going to deal with the likes of Russia's Putin, or Iran's Ahmadinejad?"
Those would be valid points of contention and doesn't bode well for Obama.
Rep. Loretta Sanchez says she’s happy for the chance to vote for Hillary Rodham Clinton at the Democratic National Convention — and she predicts that as many as half of the Democrats in the House could join her.
Just how many former Clinton supporters will vote for the former first lady during the symbolic first ballot is anybody’s guess, but each of them will be called upon to do so — whether they want to or not.
On Friday, the Obama campaign confirmed that the floor vote in Denver, intended to assuage Clinton supporters still stewing over her narrow loss, will be conducted as a state-by-state roll call. Under proposed convention bylaws, delegates would be forced to register their votes on a tally sheet with the convention secretary — the rules could be altered or suspended before the start of the convention.
“By putting her name in nomination, you're putting people on the spot,” said former delegate counter Matt Seyfang, adding a second potential drawback: “Having a roll call ... just chews into your broadcast time.”
People are STILL pissed that Hillary lost the nomination, and will vote accordingly. This is going to tear at the core of the Democratic party. While I normally rejoice at such things, I also need these people to focus on the problems that America faces right now.
With petty arguments about which guy/girl won or lost, they'll be distracted by it and not face down the problems that we need to solve. Bill Clinton has admitted that during the whole Monica affair, he was distracted from the threat of Al-Qaeda and didn't think it through enough because he was worried about the impeachment hearings. 3,000 of your fellow Americans are dead because Bill Clinton was "distracted".
I can't afford that, and neither can you.
So, Democrats, I know many of you are pissed that your girl didn't win. John McCain wasn't my first choice either. That being said, there weren't any Republican candidates that stood out for me when there were many, many more.
But, here we are with our two candidates. Vote either one, or a third party, but once the election is done, let's put aside our differences and crush Al-Qaeda, Iran's nuclear program, Russia's imperialism, our slowing economy, and get back to people acting responsibly, disciplining their children properly, and continuing to be the greatest nation on Earth.
Now, I've said some nasty things in the past about you, and I'll probably say some nasty things in the future. However, when the chips are down, you're still Americans and I'll still defend your Constitutional rights even if I don't agree with your point of view from time to time.
