Here's why:
Throughout his eight years in office, Sam led major election reforms: Consolidating 39 separate county registration systems into one statewide database to remove duplicate voters, felons, and deceased voters; moving the primary to August so those overseas can receive their ballots in a timely manner; ending ballot enhancements; and auditing county election departments.
Sam kept fighting for your right to vote without being restricted to a party, and was ultimately supported by the U.S. Supreme Court.
That and he leans Republican. :) When the 2006 election was going on, everyone was talking about voter irregularities, and I spoke with a good friend of mine who's a web programmer (one of the best in my opinion too), and we were speaking about how to combat these problems. It's VERY easy to do, so we came up with a virtual plan and could have easily implemented it for about $25,000. That's state wide.
So, when I hear about someone talking about how to fix problems before they become large ones, that person will get my attention more then anything else.
