Giuliani: I Support Right to Bear Arms

Unfortunately Rudy, your record doesn't reflect that.

Republican Rudy Giuliani sought to reassure the National Rifle Association of his support for a constitutional right to bear arms as rivals Fred Thompson, John McCain and Mike Huckabee contended the former New York mayor is no friend of gun owners.

In a direct appeal Friday to the powerful lobbying group, Thompson, McCain and Huckabee stressed their backing for gun rights and record of siding with the NRA. Giuliani, who once referred to the NRA as "extremists," tried to explain his shifting views on the issue.

Rudy has in the past called for gun control and that's just one area where I disagree with him entirely. Unfortunately for Rudy, this one issue may cost him the Presidency. With a Democratically controlled Congress, the chances of gun control advocates getting laws passed is much easier with someone who has demonstrated that they will defend those who exercise their Second Amendment rights, and Rudy simply isn't that person.

On a lot more issues, Rudy and I are in agreement, but this one key issue is something that I simply can't get over. It's my right to own a gun, regardless of what TYPE of gun it is, and if I want it, I shouldn't have the government telling me what I can and can't have.

It's 2007 years after the peaceful Jesus Christ set foot on the earth, we haven't seen a foreign threat on US soil in how many hundred years, and you're still taking gun control as a serious issue? Evolve, brother.

I take it as a serious issue because there are people out there trying to make it so that I can't own a weapon at all and they are actively lobbying politicians in Washington DC. If they weren't, I wouldn't consider it an issue.

Actually, the Japanese invaded Alaskan soil during World War II and bombed Hawaii. Not states at the time but US protectorates so still US soil. German subs torpedoed shipping lanes and even a tanker in NY harbor during WWII also. If Hitler had more time and money, he would have succeeded in his plans to build planes to bomb the US in preparation for an invasion. The terrorists that attacked NY, the Pentagon, and wherever they were taking flight 93 also stepped on to US soil. One never knows when or from where the next threat will arrive. I'd rather depend on myself to defend my family than wait for the all powerful and helpful government to do it for me.

Well that's exactly my point. I don't want politicians or others trying to take away my rights to own a gun. I own several, however, if I ever need to get another, I don't think it's fair that people are trying to subvert the rights that I enjoy, but then turn around and scream about "freedom of speech" when confronted on their views.
