Ahmadinejad speaks at Columbia - Focus on Iran - MSNBC.com

Well there's been a firestorm about Ahmadinejad speaking at Columbia University in case you have been under a rock in the past few days.

I must admit, I was pretty pissed at the dean who invited our idiotic Iranian friend to speak.  However, he did make some statements that make me second guess my initial feelings.

Bollinger described Ahmadinejad as having a "fanatical mindset" for making statements like wanting Israel to be “wiped off the map.”

"Do you plan on wiping us off the map too?" Bollinger asked, also asking questions about allegations Iran was supplying insurgents in Iraq. "Can you tell them and us why Iran is fighting a proxy war in Iraq?"

Columbia University, whose president accused the hard-line leader of behaving like “a petty and cruel dictator.”

The proxy war part I'd LOVE to get an answer for.  However, this little "speech stunt" is going to cost Columbia dearly:

As the president of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, prepares to address Columbia University today amid a storm of student protest, state and city lawmakers say they are considering withholding public funds from the school to protest its decision to invite the leader to campus.

Of course, the Iranian President got a bit insulted for being called out on his idiotic views and actions of late, but I simply can't be raised up enough to put on my "I give a shit" hat, so fuck him.

Plus, we're looking at further sanctions against Iran, so things aren't looking that good for Iran right now.

The United States is pushing for a third U.N. Security Council sanctions resolution against Iran but faces opposition from China and Russia, among others, who want to give Tehran more time to suspend its uranium enrichment.

Ok, so we have Russia and China asking for more time for them to see things our way.  Alrighty, I'll take the bait:  How much time does Iran need Russia/China?  If they have not suspended enrichment by that time, then you automatically vote for more severe sanctions?  Say 90 days and if they aren't verifiably stopping enrichment, we take sanctions to a significantly higher range such as oil and gas shipments, all weapons deals are immediately stopped, and only the basic necessities are allowed in or out of the country.  Sound fair?

Of course, Russia and China would never agree to this as they are all cowards and don't want to hurt their precious economy for various reasons.  They WANT the US to do all the dirty work for them, but they don't want to be seen as supporting the US.
