While I applaud Senator Obama for that statement, later down the article he runs into a problem.
Was vague about whether universal health coverage would require higher taxes. "I'm committed to making sure we find those resources," Obama said. "It is possible that we are going to need additional resources at least on the front end. I think you can save that money on the back end." He is meeting with expects this week as he develops a health care proposal.
Without giving specifics, Obama said he would offer a system that provides universal care and cuts costs for employers by allowing small businesses to pool together.
So, just like I've warned before, universal health care isn't going to work because Democrats don't know how they are going to pay for it without significantly raise your taxes. I don't know about you, but why should I get up every morning at 6 AM to head to work and bust my ass so I can pay for someone who's able to work but chooses not to who's on welfare so they can get medical treatment? If a person's not able to work, fine, I don't mind helping someone who's willing to help themselves. But let's first clean up the welfare system so my taxes aren't being wasted. What about those who don't want to better themselves and have resigned to jobs making minimum wage? If you want better health care, get a job that provides it. Can't get that job? Go to college. There's tons of grants, loans, and other ways of paying for college.I don't know about other states, but in my state we have basic health coverage to anyone who wants it. It's not the greatest thing in the world, but it is basic health coverage. Why can't other states follow suit? What's wrong with the insurance we offer now? There are plenty of programs out there for those who want to take 20 minutes to look it up.
