So Alberto Gonzales has apologized for the recent firings of the US attorneys. "They deserve better from me and the Department of Justice which they served for many years." Unfortunately for Democrats questioning Gonzales about his involvement in the firings, nothing illegal has been done. Otherwise Democrats would have a field day and call for his resignation or firing. They haven't done that on a scale that you'd see if something illegal had been done.
I'd love for him to be fired more than anyone else for his comments suggesting that Habeus Corpus isn't a Constitutional right, but you have to fire him for legal reasons, and unfortunately, nothing illegal has happened here.
