Musharraf 'elected to third term'

Pakistan's Pervez Musharraf was Saturday elected for a third term as president according to unofficial ballot results, state-run TV reported.

However, the Supreme Court could still choose in upcoming weeks to disqualify the U.S.-backed general, effectively holding the country in political limbo in the meantime as the court decides Musharraf's presidential eligibility.

In accordance with a ruling handed down by Pakistan's Supreme Court, the election results will not be ratified until legal challenges against the election are cleared. Those court proceedings will resume October 17.

If the court rules Musharraf is ineligible to hold office as president the second runner-up will take office instead, as the constitution stipulates.

With nuclear weapons and an unstable government, I think we'd all be pretty well concerned about Pakistan's election results. If Musharraf fails to win, then we have a pretty big problem on our hands. Who's to say that we won't have a new person in power that is sympathetic to Al-Qaeda and wants to do the whole "peace truce" bullshit like they pulled a little while ago?

If something like that happens, we may have to do something drastic in Pakistan. Obama has "said" that he would invade Pakistan, but the guy is a Democrat. We all know how much of a backbone Democrats have when it comes to terrorism and acting upon it. Hillary would wait until there's a building collapsing before she would do anything. On the Republican side, I'm not so sure what they'd do either.

Either way, I, and I imagine all of you, are getting sick and tired of Pakistan's blatant foot dragging when it comes to the northern part of Pakistan where tribes roam free who are sympathetic to Al-Qaeda. Personally, if another attack happens on American soil that originates from there, I say we level the place. It's high time we stopped fucking around with this political dog and pony show and go after people who want to kill Americans.
