Bush, Pelosi, And FISA

While I can agree that the 1978 FISA law does need a good once over, I can't believe Nancy Pelosi's take on it: Pelosi said that S. 1927, the bill passed tonight by the House to temporally amend FISA for six-months contains many provisions that are "unacceptable" and she does not believe that the American people will want to wait that long before corrective action is taken.

Nancy, if you believe that parts of the bill are "unacceptable" why did you not offer those changes up immediately? Was vacation too important to you to protect American civil liberties? Is another 6 months worth of "unacceptable" parts ok with you?

You should have spoken up louder like you do when speaking about Bush or the war in Iraq or perks you want your family to get because you're the Speaker. Because you don't, you're no different then any other sleazy politician out there. You don't care about the issues at hand, you only care about the power that it brings.

As a side note, Congress did pass the legislation that gives the NSA and other agencies the power to eavesdrop on foreign people without a warrant suspected in terrorism. However, that's the distinction. The target of the eavesdropping MUST be a foreign person. I also agree that if someone comes into this country and they are suspected of a crime, they should be followed by whatever agency that originally followed them throughout their stay in the US. It doesn't make sense for the CIA to track a guy then hand it off to the FBI simply because the person is now on US soil.

Personally, I'm a bit troubled by the Attorney General getting a say over what's right and wrong within the spying because Alberto Gonzales simply can't be trusted to protect American rights. I would feel much better if a judge was giving the go ahead on such matters.
