Russian General Makes Broad Anti-Missile Defense Shield Threat

Wow, in all of a few sentences, this guy threatens the Czech Republic, Democrats, and the US.

"We say it will be a big mistake by the Czech government to put this radar site on Czech territory," said Yuri Baluyevsky, the Russian military chief of staff, after meeting the Czech deputy defense minister, Martin Bartak.

He said the Czech Republic should hold off making a decision until after the U.S. presidential election, scheduled to take place in late 2008. Incumbent George W. Bush will not be running.

"A decision will be made by the Czech side only after the evaluation of all conditions, technical and otherwise," said Baluyevsky.

"I and my Russian colleagues simply ask that that process continue through to October-November of 2008, and I think you can all guess why."

Because you think that a Democrat in office is spineless and will cave into your demands (which you'd probably be right about). You think that without US support, the Czech Republic would cave soon afterwards (which you might be right about as well), and you think Democrats have a shot at winning the White House. (Which I don't think so, but I've seen dumber things before).

What this is all about is Russia having a pissing contest with the US. We're trying to help our allies from rogue nations, and even invited the Russians to participate in the program, and we were told no. So they really don't have anything to bitch about.
