$42 dollars. $42 fucking dollars is what these idiots wanted a soldier to pay for his Purple Heart medal from the action he saw in the Korean war.
That is simply unacceptable. Granted, they told him he could reapply within 90 days, but for them to say he could buy his own isn't going to fly around here. That shouldn't have even been an option. They should have told him "we don't have any Purple Hearts available right now. When we get more in, we'll contact you and give you one". Simple, honest, direct.
Hell, I would have paid the $42 dollars because no soldier should have to pay for something like that. Ever.
I'm sorry Nyles Reed, that you had to go through this. It's disgraceful, and dishonorable. Thank you for your service sir.
