Wanna See What A Bad Idea Looks Like?

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger will propose borrowing against future state lottery revenue
to help close a budget shortfall estimated as high as $20 billion
,
administration officials told The Associated Press.

In
a revised budget to be released Wednesday, Schwarzenegger will propose
raising $15 billion over three years by selling bonds based on
anticipated lottery revenue, then use about $5.1 billion of that for
the coming fiscal year to help erase the deficit, the officials said
Tuesday.

The other $10 billion would be left in a reserve fund the Republican
governor wants to create as part of a budget reform proposal. It would
be intended to ease the effect of year-to-year revenue fluctuations
.

Bad, bad, bad idea Arnold. You need to focus on reducing spending. Make prisoners work for private companies at cut rate prices, stop socialist programs or drastically reduce their costs, offer rewards to those who find ways to cut costs.

It's really not that difficult. California has a massive economy, and if they played everything right, they could have a budget surplus in the billions every single year. When bad things happen like earthquakes, they have money for that "rainy day".

But they don't. There's too many liberals out there who want these socialist programs, then they have the nerve to complain when taxes get raised. You can't have it both ways. You either spend like crazy and get taxed like crazy, or you cut programs and spending. Otherwise you go bankrupt. There's no middle ground.

So when I read about dumb ideas like borrowing against future revenues, I have a red warning light go off in my head. It should for voters in California too.
