Distorting The Truth And Jumping To Conclusions

Normally, I try not to disparage other websites except Huffington and Kos, but Prison Planet has such a bullshit story, they're just aching to be pulled out into the spotlight.

Rumsfeld On Tape: Terror Attack Could Restore Neo-Con Agenda.

That's the headline. Should be some shocking revelation about how Rumsfeld, whom I'm no fan of, is admitting that the Bush administration is actually HOPING for a terror attack to get the American public on it's side. There's also an audio clip from the site, and while it's difficult to tell if it is indeed Rumsfeld, I'm going to assume it is for the sake of argument.

Here's the transcript:

DELONG: Politically, what are the challenges
because you're not going to have a lot of sympathetic ears up there
until it [a terror attack] happens.

RUMSFELD: That's what I was just going to say. This
President's pretty much a victim of success. We haven't had an attack
in five years. The perception of the threat is so low in this society
that it's not surprising that the behavior pattern reflects a low threat
assessment. The same thing's in Europe, there's a low threat perception.
The correction for that, I suppose, is an attack. And
when that happens, then everyone gets energized for another [inaudible]
and it's a shame we don't have the maturity to recognize the seriousness
of the threats...the lethality, the carnage, that can be imposed on
our society is so real and so present and so serious that you'd think
we'd be able to understand it, but as a society, the longer you get
away from 9/11, the less...the less..
.

That's not even close to what Rumsfeld is saying. What he is saying is that there's a threat and a good portion of the American and European public aren't taking it seriously. He's saying that the longer away from 9/11 we get, the more complacent people are becoming. It's a dangerous way of thinking that we also did in the 90's while Al-Qaeda grew.

No where does he say that a terror attack could "further the neo-con agenda" or anything of that nature. It's bullshit and it's pretty typical of "truthers" to take a bit of tape, twist it, and turn it into something it's not.
