Your Gas Bill's About To Go Up

The House has passed legislation that would put $16 billion worth of taxes on oil companies and putting some of that money towards renewable resources.

While I'm all for renewable resources for our transportation needs, let's not beat around the bush, oil companies aren't going to absorb a dime of these new taxes. They are going to trickle that new amount of money they have to pay towards the government to you and me. It's high time get got off gasoline completely. There's no reason why we can't have electric cars these days.

Automakers are already hedging their bets by bringing out hybrid plugins or pure electric cars by the end of the decade. To tell you the truth, I'm a bit tired of dealing with the high price of gas as well. Let's not forget that just a few short years ago, a gallon of gas was $1.80. Now it's double that price.

That being said, oil companies are the new "boogyman" industry right now just like the tobacco industry was in the 90's. If they are going to tax oil industries, why not tax automakers for every car or truck they make that gets less than 40 mpg and put that money towards renewable resources? Because it's not popular to do so.

The question is, is this actually a turning point in America's life where we get off of fossil fuels and move towards a more environmentally friendly atmosphere? Or is it just another blip on the screen that will soon fade with time. What I do know is, is OPEC and other oil companies had better do something quickly. The high cost of gasoline is pushing them out of business rather quickly. The US is an extremely large marketplace and to lose it would mean costs would go up for other countries that need oil, thus, starting a chain reaction in the marketplace.
