Police say the teen made up locations for the calls, sending the helicopters to the Sunshine Skyway Bridge and elsewhere. When asked his name during his final call on Thursday, he gave the name of a cousin who is serving in Iraq.
When Coast Guard officers called the cousin's mother to make sure her son was okay, she went into a frenzy, fearing her son had been killed, Mahabir said.
Criminal charges are needed in this case and a severe punishment needs to be dealt out. Restitution is in order here as well. The Coast Guard was off looking for things that weren't there while they could have been doing REAL Coast Guard work. This kid also put his aunt through hell thinking that her son had been killed in Iraq. I don't know about you, but in family, that's more than a spanking.Travis

I just told you in the article that criminal charges and restitution was in order. A spanking is something that's done when a child has been told no, or is acting up in a manner that warrants a spanking.
Something of this nature, especially given that this child is too old for a spanking means that he's going to have to man up and take responsibility for his actions. Did you think I meant that the child should be beaten or worse?
