The Chinese have banned 7 US meat importers because of contamination fears. While those fears may indeed be legitimate, China is rightfully suffering from a reputation as a third rate supplier of food and medicine. People fear that the food and medicine they are getting from foreign sources are contaminated and thus, they won't buy it.
China can ill afford to have this reputation, which is why they are clamping down on anyone who even remotely could be responsible for the ongoing concerns of unhealthy environments. Their economy can be easily disturbed if they start getting the reputation of loose quality controls and that will thwart their plans of economic super stardom.
If China was really serious about cleaning up their act, they'd allow people to inspect their factories and do random tests like we do here in the US. They may do that already, but a more public showing might help alleviate those fears.
