Ok, so I promised you all to reveal how I'm voting in this year's election. Currently, I have a ballot sitting in front of me, and I will explain who I'm voting for, and more importantly, WHY I'm voting for them.
So, first up, voting for my Representative from the 3rd Congressional District.
In the past, I have voted for Brian Baird. The guy generally seems spot on when it comes to my viewpoints, including a reversal after he went to Iraq and then started supporting it.
He's excellent in the art of replying to constituents and making sure that he holds a lot of town hall meetings to address concerns of the public.
That being said, he has voted in two different areas against my Constitutional rights and I can't vote for him in good concience.
First, the FISA law that was recently passed. It's fatally flawed and allows abuse of a massive sort to occur. The FBI and other agencies have fully admitted that they've abused the PATRIOT act tools that they were given, so why give them more? Especially given that this new FISA law would in essence, allow the violations of US citizen's Fourth Amendment rights?
Secondly, he voted for the stimulus package, and other fiscally irresponsible measures.
He's talked about being fiscally responsible in the past, but he's done nothing to actually DO something about it. He's never spoke of cutting spending, and other such measures, only of spending money "more wisely".
He's a nice guy, I've met him, and I genuinely feel bad for voting against him, but the fact of the matter is, I need a guy who can run things effectively, and he's not up to the task anymore.
So, who do I vote for?
Now, I don't fully agree with a lot of the things he's for and against either. However, take a look at what he has to say:
With gas and food prices soaring, everybody knows our economy is hurting. The falling dollar is in direct response to Congress borrowing money from places like China and Saudi Arabia. When the Fed prints paper money “out of thin air,” the dollars in your wallet are worth less. That is why it takes more dollars today to buy gasoline and groceries. The products are not more scarce, but our dollars have lost value. Congress must stop passing unbalanced budgets, which is the reason they resort to printing money to cover the shortfall.
When elected, I will push for a new I-5 bridge over the Columbia River Crossing paid out of our existing federal gas taxes. I reject tolls and light rail. Light rail will burden Vancouver with additional taxes and might increase crime. I am against the Cowlitz Casino and find it an abuse of the Native American treaty process. I oppose the Liquefied Natural Gas terminals because of the eminent domain land grab for private interests. We must enforce visa rules, and secure the borders without amnesty.
I am a conservative Republican, a man of the people, not a career politician. I am strongly pro-life, pro-2nd amendment, pro-private property rights, and I am against the National Animal Identification System which needlessly hamstrings our small farmers. I will not follow the whims and dictates of unelected bureaucrats at the United Nations.
We must support our troops, attack the terrorists wherever they are, and phase out our military involvement in Iraq to protect our own country economically and militarily.
Vote for me if you want a representative who will not be bought by special interests, but will follow the Constitution and stand up for limited government, less regulation, common sense, balanced budget, America-first policies.
He spells it out, in plain English, what he's for and against. Now, anyone here knows I'm not a pro-lifer. I believe it's a woman's right to choose whatever she wants to do with her body. However, Michael spells out exactly what he's for and what he's against. He doesn't give a standard non-answer when it comes to giving you an answer.
So, I'll be voting for him.
Unfortunately, it took me a LONG time to write everything out, come to a conclusion, and do some research, so this will probably be the only vote I reveal tonight. I'll see what I can do for more posts tonight, but it's getting rather late. :)
