"There are the bloodstains on the wall, and here it is dried on the floor," Abu Muhanad said as he walked through a torture chamber in a Baghdad mosque where more than two dozen bodies have been found.
"And here, a woman's shoes. She was a victim of the militia. We found her corpse in the grave."
Chunks of hair waft lazily across the floor in the hot Baghdad breeze.
"This was the torture room," said Muhanad, the leader of a U.S.-backed armed group that now controls the mosque.
"This is what they used for hanging," he said, pointing to a cord dangling from the ceiling. "Here is a chain we found tied to an old man's body."
When we targeted certain mosques in Iraq, people were pissed. They claimed we were after Islam as a religion, instead of going after people who were torturing and killing innocent civilians.
Guess what, we were right, they were wrong. So, where's the apologies that are rightfully deserved? We went after bad guys and got flack for it, and now that it's shown without a doubt that our boys were absolutely correct, I want to hear an "I'm sorry, I was wrong" from the liberals and Europeans, and especially from other Muslims.
How's about an additional "thanks" for keeping them safe when we could have let them plunge into civil war and let the bloodshed get to the point where the entire country would rip itself apart?
Oh, and how about you denounce the people who heard the screams and didn't do anything about it, including just REPORTING that there was something going on.
Let's not forget, this is also the same militia that is headed by Moqtada al-Sadr, the guy who was wanted for the murder of a rival cleric and who was let off the hook in the name of peace.
Some peace you've gotten out of your deal.
Since I expect not a single member of the above mentioned groups to say it, I'll say it. Thanks guys for going after bad guys and keeping perfect strangers safe. They were wrong, you were right. Come home soon and safe.
