Jack Straw said in a letter that a "regrettable administrative error" led to the blunder and apologized for any offence caused to the Muslim community.
The Justice Secretary has ordered staff at the category B facility to be more diligent and prison officers will be re-trained to consider inmates' cultural and religious needs.
Ok, maybe I'm going to sound like an asshole here, but fuck 'em. If you're offended that you can't eat pork, that's your business. However, you're a prisoner because you COMMITTED A CRIME and the jail has no reason to adhere to your piss ant religious objections. That goes for ALL religions. Sure, they'll make sure you get a copy of the Koran, Bible, Dienetics, or whatever your religious text may be.
However, if you won't eat what they are serving, perhaps you should have thought about that before you committed your crime. I'm sure they'll be nice enough to give you a few slices of bread to make sure you don't starve, but the UK government owes no one an apology for the idiotic idea that they have to bend over backwards to appease criminals.
