Far from putting the controversial issue of race behind him, Barack Obama has decided to address the issue head on in a speech Tuesday.
"I am going to be talking not just about Reverend Wright, but the larger issue of race in this campaign — which has ramped up over the last couple of weeks," Obama told reporters in Monaca, Pennsylvania.
Obama's chief strategist David Axelrod characterized the speech, to be delivered in Philadelphia, as "a discussion on race and politics."
"Given the events of the last few weeks, Obama felt it was time to address the issue of race and politics directly, and what it means in our country," Axelrod said.
Mark your calendars folks. This is "make or break" for Obama. If he manages to persuade people that he does indeed disagree with his pastor, Hillary's sunk. If he comes across as being sneaky and underhanded, he's going to lose enough momentum for Hillary, if she were smart, to gain on the losses she's suffered thus far.
I REALLY am looking forward to this speech.
Here are some of the things I'd like to know that should be addressed in the speech.
1. Why does he go to a predominately "black" church if he's supposedly for "uniting" people?
2. How can he expect us to believe that in 20 years of going to this man's services, could have not heard one of these speeches, or at least heard from another member of the church "hey, did you hear what he said"?
3. He has said that he has never personally heard these speeches while attending church. Would he support the church releasing their videos that they take of these sermons to the general public for scrutiny to see if that's true?
4. Will he permanently distance himself from the pastor for these speeches, or will he continue to use him as a "spiritual advisor"?
5. I'd like to know his stances about each of the things that the pastor has said: America deserved 9/11. The Palestinians are being killed by us, etc.
Watch for the tightrope walking act. :)

I've only looked at a few of your posts Travis and I'm already sick of you. Proof that Obama has said he hasn't listened to his speeches? Because I have heard many statements from him regarding Rev Wright's statements. For one, in response to Wrights comments about 9/11 Obama said
"The violence of 9/11 was inexcusable and without justification... It sounds like he was trying to be provocative. ...Reverend Wright is a child of the 60s, and he often expresses himself in that language of concern with institutional racism and the struggles the African-American community has gone through... He analyzes public events in the context of race. I tend to look at them through the context of social justice and inequality."

^^ thats a source, try using them sometimes
Beyond that, your complaint about him going to a "black" church? Who the fuck cares? Maybe thats the church he goes to with his mom, last I check church and state weren't united - why should it matter?
Here's a "source" for you with video:

If you even bothered to pay attention, you would have noticed this story was 2 stories below the one we are speaking about now.
When you claim to be a "uniter" you can't give off the illusion that you're anything but.
I'm certain you would probably have a field day if McCain went to a church where the pastor talked about "white values" and how the Birmingham church bombings were justified.
And it doesn't sound to you like he's trying to minimize what his pastor said? Obama has said that he condemns what his pastor has said in the most "serious terms", yet, we have him trying to brush it aside as his pastor "trying to be provocative"
Maybe you don't care, but if you bothered to look across the news, just about everyone else does.
As a side note, I'm glad I can make such a impassioned feeling with you within a short period of time. Perhaps you should do a bit more research on me and my views before you become "sick" of me from such a benign post.
I've made much more "provocative" statements that I'm sure would inflame your senses.
I really don't care who goes to church where. That's your own damn business what you believe - it's left out of politics, you're buying into the media's hype. Try figuring out what candidates vote for in Congress rather than what drugs they did or what church they go to. You wanna give me the arguments laid out by each party regarding the recently overturned FISA amendments? Did you even know that the Senate was close to passing a telecom immunity provision? Don't hit that wikipedia before answering, it doesn't count.
If you want to figure out what is going on in this country try laying of the news a bit, they tend to focus on the irrelevant, but at least it's interesting huh?
On my own sidenote, I stumbled upon this site off of digg and saw the first few posts. I came back because I was interested in your responses. Nothing about your insubstantial ramblings would make me want to go back and study your old posts. What are blogs for anyways?
