Hypocrisy At The Kos!

Say it ain't so!  I had an inkling we'd see some hypocritical stances from liberals about their God Obama's pastor's remarks.

Sadly, I've been proven right:

This speech is amazingly honest and will hopefully spark a long overdue discussion on race in America. We'll see if it is enough to blunt to criticism of his relationship with Reverend Wright.  I think he's done a spectacular job thus far of denouncing specific remarks by Reverend Wright, while still standing steadfastly by him and his community.

Ok, the writer, Scout, no I'm not making it up, was simply ok with Obama's speech and him "standing steadfastly by him" when Obama's pastor spewed out hate speech.

Yet, when it comes to Republicans and John McCain, it's quite different:

Sadly, the racist whisper campaign continues.  This time though, an aide to Republican presidential candidate John McCain has been proven to be directly involved. TPM Election Central has the story:

A McCain campaign aide actively pushed an incendiary, racially-charged video that uses the controversial words of Barack Obama's pastor to tar Obama as unpatriotic -- despite the fact that McCain himself has suggested that Obama shouldn't be held accountable for Wright's views.

The aide, Soren Dayton, who works in McCain's political department, has been suspended from the campaign, a McCain spokesperson, Jill Hazelbaker, confirmed to me.

The move by McCain's aide could create controversy for the McCain camp, because the video itself is thoroughly reprehensible -- it interweaves footage of Obama explaining why he won't wear the American flag pin, Wright saying "God damn America," Malcolm X, and Obama's wife saying that his candidacy has made him proud of America for the "first time."

Suspended? Instead of fired? Well, that is a maverick move.  I'd say he should have been fired on the spot.  No, don't clean out your desk, don't say your goodbyes.  Put your keys on the desk, get your coat, and head to the door.  It must not be tolerated.  These racist whisper/ viral vile video campaigns must be stopped in their tracks. If any political operatives are involved, I'd say you are "on notice."

So, if someone on the Republican side of things does something racist or hate filled, they should be "fired on the spot".  However, when it comes to the Democratic side, it's ok to denounce them but "stand steadfastly by" them.

Then Scout has the audacity to point out the hypocrisy of someone else, but this time it's about Eliot Spitzer's hooker scandal:

As the allegations against Eliot Spitzer were unveiled last week (in astounding detail) and he was forced to resign, we were reminded of another politician who was recently busted for his links to prostitution --- David Vitter. Unlike Eliot Spitzer, Vitter refused to resign and still "serves" (I use that term loosely) his Louisiana constituents. In a conference call with constituents last week, Vitter bitterly defended his prostitution bust - claiming it was totally different. Courtesy of Nola.com via CREW:

"I have made a very serious mistake a long time ago and I have to live with that every day," Vitter said, according to Jordan's account. "That's not a flippant statement. I need to spend my whole life making up for that." According to Jordan, Vitter turned "a bit defiant" and added: "Anybody who looks at the two cases will see there is an enormous difference between the two of them. The people that are trying to draw comparisons to the two cases are people who've never agreed with me on important issues like immigration and other things."

A-ha! It's the immigration, stupid! It's not his fault he was busted with a prostitute (who later went on to claim that David liked to be diapered and babied). Nooooo, no siree. It's the fault of all those people who disagree with him on immigration.  Never mind the fact that he never actually details any differences between the two cases. It has to be his immigration policy.  In essence, Spitzer's prostitution problem is a character issue, while Vitter's prostitution problem was an immigration issue.  Got it? Totally different.

If you're going to be pointing out hypocrisy, you can't be hypocritical yourself.
