The Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Sen. Barack Obama's controversial former pastor, has canceled his plans to speak at church services in Houston, Texas, this weekend in the wake of the recent uproar over portions of his past sermons.
Video clips of those sermons caused a public stir this month after being widely circulated on the Internet.
The clips in question include several racially charged statements and accusations the U.S. government has adopted policies to systematically oppress African-Americans.
Wright was scheduled to speak at three services Sunday at Houston's Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church. But the Rev. Marcus Cosby, the church's pastor, said Wright decided to cancel the appearances amid safety concerns.
"He canceled for largely personal reasons," Cosby said, adding that recent uproar has led to threats against Wright, his family and his church -- the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago.
The church, Cosby said, had planned to take extra security precautions for Wright's services this weekend, but said the decision to cancel the appearances was Wright's entirely.
How about you stand by your words Reverend and not act like a coward? You said these things, you had no problem saying them when everyone in your audience was agreeing with you. Now that you're experiencing some blowback, you want to back down like a coward.
You want to say something controversial? Go for it, but act like a man and deal with the consequences of those words.
Sounds like your "chickens are coming home to roost" Reverend.

I just heard the full sermon on the radio and it is nothing like what is being portrayed on TV.
People wake up and don't believe everything the media tells you. Find the speach and listen for yourself.
Rev Wright was speaking about an ambassador that was on Fox Televison with Hannity and Friends the day prior. He even says that these aren't his words and tells his congregation to turn to one another and say I love you because a terriorist could kill them. This really sucks. I can't believe the media won't play the entire tape. Shame on you for trying to tear our country apart.
I have heard the sermons in it's entirety and some of them are directly his statements rather than him quoting.
That being said, take a look at what he says and HOW he says it. He agrees with these statements, contrary to what you'd like to believe.
However, besides that, Obama has shown poor judgment here in that he's exposing his children to such rhetoric and he knows about it.
Remember he said "no, no, no, not God bless America, God damn America". I don't remember hearing that on Fox News.
Shame on you for appeasing a hate monger and his Presidential church member.
The media is once again trying to pull a fast one. I have also heard the full sermon and I must say, that once this comes out, I expect that the opposing side will lose additional supporters. It's horrible what these people are doing to these two families. First of all, we aren't accountable for what others speak out of their mouths just as we aren't held accountable for what they think. Nothing that Pastor Wright said was incorrect, not even the part about Hillary never being called the N word! They are making a mountain out of a mole-hill, they are running scared because they know time is running out for them. Anything to keep us distracted and to keep Obama from doing what he's supposed to be doing and that is campaigning. The things that the Clintons are doing now, are things that won't likely be forgotten or forgiven. I can't believe the audacity of them, behind their scandalous behinds!!!
The issue isn't that Obama said these things, the issue is that his hate speech isn't being denounced until it's in the spotlight. That shows poor judgment.
You certainly don't want a Presidential candidate who only does what's right when the light is on him do you?
Perhaps you should go back and listen to the sermons and compare them to facts. Wright mentions Nagasaki and Hiroshima, two targets that didn't have to be targeted had the Japanese not attacked Pearl Harbor.
Everyone generally agrees that an invasion of Japan would have had a loss of life much greater than those lost in the twin nuclear bombings of those cities.
So do tell, how is it that our "chickens are coming home to roost" when Wright can't get his facts straight?
Obama has never been called a "honky", "cracker" or "white devil" either, so what does that prove?
