I guess we'll have to dust off the old "shooting down a satellite" playbook for this one.
The Pentagon is planning to shoot down a broken spy satellite expected to hit the Earth in early March, The Associated Press has learned.
U.S. officials said Thursday that the option preferred by the Bush administration will be to fire a missile from a U.S. Navy cruiser, and shoot down the satellite before it enters Earth's atmosphere.
There's real concern about the fuel tank on board rupturing and possibly poisoning people on the ground. But the REAL reason is we don't want anything that survives re-entry to be found by our enemies. That's all we need, an enemy country analyzing one of our spy satellites.
