Saudi Arabia's rulers threatened to make it easier for terrorists to attack London unless corruption investigations into their arms deals were halted, according to court documents revealed yesterday.
Previously secret files describe how investigators were told they faced "another 7/7" and the loss of "British lives on British streets" if they pressed on with their inquiries and the Saudis carried out their threat to cut off intelligence.
Prince Bandar, the head of the Saudi national security council, and son of the crown prince, was alleged in court to be the man behind the threats to hold back information about suicide bombers and terrorists. He faces accusations that he himself took more than £1bn in secret payments from the arms company BAE.
He was accused in yesterday's high court hearings of flying to London in December 2006 and uttering threats which made the prime minister, Tony Blair, force an end to the Serious Fraud Office investigation into bribery allegations involving Bandar and his family.
I think it's time we got back to basics here folks. I'm offering this advice to our British friends across the pond. If someone in that position of power threatens you with terrorist attacks in such a direct manner, I fail to see a problem in having him assassinated.
Sure, we all say things in the heat of the moment, but to directly threaten another nation with terrorist attacks when your country is already known as terrorist central, implies that you have the opportunity, the means, and the motive to carry out such an attack. Perhaps Britain could have retaliated and told them "another 7/7 happens, and Mecca will be a smoldering crater of green glass.
If intelligence sharing is contingent on ongoing corruption by the Saudi's, then perhaps a more covert action is required. The obviously are using the threat of terrorists from their own country as a weapon, so why not retaliate with the weapons available at your fingertips? Send in the SAS, have Saudi's waking up with their throats cut, let them know what it means when you threaten someone, they may take your head off because of those direct threats.
