McCain Knocks Bush Signing Statements

Sen. John McCain criticized President Bush today for his practice of issuing signing statements that suggest the president will ignore elements of the bills he had signed into law, saying he strongly disagreed with the practice.

Campaign promises are a bit on the semi-sacred side for me.  If you tell me you're going to do something, I expect you to do it.  So when John McCain says he won't do "signing statements", he'd better know, that if I do vote for him, I expect him to keep that promise.

I know I sound a bit naive in wanting politicians to actually keep the promises that they make, but does that mean that I'm wrong in asking them to extend me the courtesy?

I mean, when Democrats promised "5 day work weeks", getting rid of the "culture of corruption", and other campaign promises during the 2006 election, they were swiftly voted into power.  Then they didn't keep those promises, making voters very upset at their actions.

So I guess I'm not alone in that feeling.
