In December, the United States will begin a new military phase in Iraq -- one in which "our troops will shift over time from leading operations to partnering with Iraqi forces, and eventually to overwatching those forces," Bush said in his weekly radio address.
Bush was following the recommendations of Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Iraq.
That's ideally what you'd like. Let the Iraqi's start taking baby steps towards getting them back on their feet. They are now starting to do that as Democrats are calling for us to yank the carpet out from underneath them.My thought is that we'll be significantly down at the end of next year. Maybe 75,000 troops left in the country by that point in time. I may be wrong, but I think the war will be winding down by the time that the election rolls around and it'll be up to the next President to decide what they want to do.
