Public broadcaster Israel Radio said Israel rejected an approach from Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, through a "mediator," to a senior Israeli defense official before the Israeli security cabinet declared Gaza an "enemy entity" on Wednesday.
The Palestinian source told Reuters Hamas sought talks with Deputy Defense Minister Matan Vilnai, offering to rein in rocket fire into Israel in return for an easing of border controls.
Or more truthfully: "We will stop shooting at you if you ease up so we can rearm and regroup ourselves".
The Palestinians really ought to consider themselves lucky. If I were in power, I'd order Gaza be invaded and Hamas eradicated. Then I'd order our guys to assassinate any and all Hamas members.
The only thing these thugs understand is force. When you start slaughtering them by the thousands, then they'll start thinking: "Hey, maybe being a Hamas member isn't what it's cracked up to be".
And if any other nation tried to intervene on Hamas' behalf, then they are fair game as well.
Sooner or later you have to stop the bloodshed. The only way to do that is overwhelming force against the enemy. Bring them to the brink of destruction and take the fight out of them. Otherwise they slowly bleed you out. A rocket here, a car bomb there, your citizens must feel safe and must BE safe.
