Illegal Immigrant Deported

While the article does reek of trying to tug at your heart strings, the simple fact of the matter remains that Elvira Arellano broke the law by being here illegally, and she had the nerve to defy her deportation order. That means she's broken two US laws.

What's worse is her blatant attempt to use her son as leverage to stay in America. That's emotional blackmail in my book. Sure, her son was born in America, that means that he's an American citizen and can stay with relatives that are here legally. Or, she can take her son with her when she's dropped off in Mexico.

Arellano, 32, arrived in Washington state illegally in 1997. She was deported to Mexico shortly afterward, but returned and moved to Illinois in 2000, taking a job cleaning planes at O'Hare International Airport.

She was arrested in 2002 at O'Hare and convicted of working under a false Social Security number. She was to surrender to authorities last August but instead sought refuge at the church on Aug. 15, 2006.

So technically, she's broken 4 US laws. She came here illegally twice, defied a deportation order, and used a false Social Security number. By my count, that means she should never come back to the US. She knew the Social Security number was false, but still decided to lie to people anyways. She was working at O'Hare with intimate access to aircraft. What do you suppose might have happened if she didn't want to simply stay in the US, but wanted to do some nefarious other activities?

She broke too many laws for me to feel sorry for her. There are literally thousands of other people who are going through the proper channels, so I imagine they don't feel sorry for her either. Perhaps the best thing she can be is an example to others who want to come to this country illegally.
