The Other Mine Accident

China is notorious over secrecy when it comes to public knowledge of recent events. The mine accident is no different. 181 people are currently trapped in a mine in China, but it does get much publicity there. Why? Because China doesn't like having information out in the public. China doesn't like having egg on it's face.

We here in America don't like it either, but we really don't have a choice when it comes down to it. Information is freely available about all sorts of events here and around the world. When something bad about America is shown, everyone knows about it. When the same happens in China, Iran, or Russia, not a lot of people know about it because they don't want to appear weak and incompetent in the eyes of the international community. Which is too bad, if information was more freely available, you might start having decent opinions about those countries instead of just seeing bad thing after bad thing come from those countries.
