What A Lot Of American's Don't Know

In the early 90's, we kicked the crap out of Saddam and booted his ass out of Kuwait. Everyone knows this. We allowed Saddam to remain in power for various reasons and sanctioned him for his continued violation. Everyone knows this. He even fired missiles at our patrolling the "no fly" zone that protected the Kurds at our aircraft almost daily. Most everyone knows this.

However, right after the first Gulf War, we encouraged people within Iraq to rise up against Saddam, and with no support from us, or any other Arab nation, they were slaughtered by the thousands. This is where the level of knowledge comes to a screeching halt.

Now, a trial involving that slaughter is bringing up bad memories for all involved:

"I just want to laugh when I hear American politicians talk about spreading democracy in the Middle East. I ask them: 'Why then did you allow Saddam to kill women and children when the Iraqi people revolted against his dictatorship?" said Mohammed al-Jawahiry, 32, a doctor in the southern city of Basra.

Now, fast forward to today. Do you think that the entire Iraqi nation wouldn't be rightfully pissed at us if we leave and they aren't ready to tackle their own problems? Do you think they should be just left to the wolves? If you talk about how we're "creating more terrorists" by being there, how many more do you suppose we'd make if we left and people were slaughtered AGAIN.

Make no mistake, we have a moral obligation to help these people rise up against those who would love to be the new wolves. Failure to do that would mean that we'd lose the trust that we've hard gotten in parts of the Middle East. It would mean that thousands of people would have died because we left them when they needed us most. It's wrong to do then and it's wrong to do now.
