From The "They Did That"? File

Medicare has announced that it will no longer pay for mistakes that hospitals make. What I can't believe is they actually have been doing that. If a hospital makes a mistake, they need to eat that cost. This will save Medicare TONS of money and make hospitals more careful about their care.

Why should you and I foot the bill for a screwup that a medically trained doctor or nurse make? Now if Medicare can get a bit more efficient, we can start seeing REAL savings. But at $408 billion in expenses in 2006, it's second only to national defense in terms of spending. Cut those overhead costs and streamline things without sacrificing care, and you'll see this country crawl out from underneath our mounting debt.
