I've posted about this guy before, and now he's been convicted and faces 35 years in jail. This is what we should do with spies. Of course with overwhelming evidence, he's using the "I didn't know it was illegal" defense. He's admitted he lied, he admitted he copied classified information, he even names his Chinese government counterpart.
It's pretty open and shut if you ask me. The Chinese have been wanting to get at our military, especially naval, secrets for years. We've been shutting them down left and right, and now they've gotten caught with their hand in the cookie jar.
Leaks such as this endanger military personnel and allow the Chinese to have an upper hand in things. While I don't believe that they are a threat to the US directly, they are always talking about taking back Taiwan. We are obligated by law to help defend Taiwan and if shit hits the fan, how do you think we're going to defend them? With the US Navy of course. If the Chinese know the inside and out of a state of the art submarine, they can use that to their advantage and kill many sailors. This is why this conviction and shining a spotlight onto the Chinese's activities is so important. Perhaps the Chinese would like it if we took classified information about their military or something sensitive about them? I'm not saying we aren't, I'm just saying what's good for the goose is good for the gander.
