I Misspoke When I Was Directly Quoted.

Oh give me a break. This is the problem when you call someone on something they've said. Why can't people just say, "Yeah I said it, so what"? When you are directly quoted as saying "But I think there is a big possibility (inaudible) for extreme criticism and because undoubtedly there was arrogance and stupidity from the United States in Iraq." You need to man up and take your lumps if someone calls you on it. Now, there's nothing wrong with what he said. However, don't go saying you misspoke because I've been interviewed a few times and each time I have been asked to make sure that my quotes were correct.

I've said things in the past, but when I am not clear on something, I usually state "maybe those weren't the right words to communicate what I mean". But if you've been directly quoted, don't backtrack, be more elaborate on exactly what you mean. Don't just give a blanket statement of having "misspoken".
