I blasted Nancy Pelosi on her trip to Syria because she went without White House authorization, she undermined our attempts to isolate the regime there, and she showed weakness to an enemy.
Condoleeza Rice has met with Syria's Foreign Minister and I got a lot of hate mail asking why I don't talk about it and how it's hypocritical.
It's not hypocritical, and here's why.
Ms. Rice is the Secretary of State. It is her job to meet with various foreign diplomats and help reinforce the White House's foreign policy. It is NOT the job of the Speaker of the House's job to do that. When the White House is trying to accomplish a certain goal, and the Speaker goes out of their way to undermine that goal, you deserve to be slapped back.
The meeting came hours after the chief U.S. military spokesman in Iraq said Syria had moved to reduce "the flow of foreign fighters" across its border.
Do you honestly think that Nancy was the one instrumental in getting Syria to act? It's possible, but I don't believe it. I believe that Syria acted, if they did indeed do so, because they want Nancy on their side and if she managed to force an end to the Iraq war and Syria was still pouring "foreign fighters" into Iraq and destabilizing the region, it would show her that Republicans were right and Syria was in some serious hot water then.
Republicans would be completely justified in saying "I told you so" and it would hurt the chances of a Democratic win in 2008. This could also be the results of a backdoor deal with Syria. I don't put it past Pelosi to say to the Syrian President "You end the insurgents coming through your border, I'll get the big bad American military away from you, and you can continue to fight against Israel" This is what I've been talking about for a while now. Democrats don't want to do what's right, they want to do what makes them look good and consolidate power.
