So what if Europeans know multiple languages? They live in smaller nations with neighbors that speak a completely different language. So, it becomes a bit more useful for them to know how to speak to their neighbors.
My children will learn English. American English. If they want to learn Spanish, or any other language besides their native tongue, so be it.
There’s nothing “embarrassing” about only knowing one language. It’s only embarrassing to you.
And, if you’re curious, I know how to speak French a little bit, and I can read, but not speak Spanish.
