He's right though. We need to insure that our upcoming retirees are able to collect the benefits that they have been paying for up to this point. Many of them have already made many sacrifices for this country and they deserve what they were promised when they started paying into Social Security. If that means that I have to pay higher taxes, then so be it. I don't want my Grandfather or someone else's grandfather not receiving his benefits because the government can't do simple fucking math.
But as a side note, fiscal responsibility must start now for Social Security. It's not going to be enough to live on for the rest of your life of course, but if someone is promised X amount of dollars a month, that's what they should get. Period. Fiscal responsibility will help enable us to plan for a rainy day when we'll need extra items. I'm investing like crazy into my retirement because I know that whatever Social Security pays, it won't be enough. A life filled with partying, sex, occasional drunken good times, and bad food is bound to catch up to me sooner or later. :)
