Russia: "We'd hate to see all that energy suddenly get cut off"

This is extortion plain and simple. Russia has already set an example of cutting off gas supplies unless newer, higher rates were agreed upon. Sure, economics plays a key role, but to expect someone to double their rates all of a sudden and imply that they might get cut off is no more then a thug move. Something like this would make me want to stop dealing with the Russians when it comes to being an energy customer and want to open up the Alaskan land for gas and oil exploration.
