Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul has a couple of things going for him at this weekend's Republican caucuses: a band of highly motivated supporters and a natural appeal to Maine's like-minded independents.
His stop in the state earlier this week also made him the only presidential contender from either party to visit before the caucuses.
"I think that (because) he's paid attention to Maine, he'll be rewarded," R. Kenneth Lindell, Paul's campaign coordinator in Maine, said Thursday.
Ron Paul certainly has a very large following on the internet, however, it hasn't translated into votes, and that's something that no politician can do without. With Barack Obama having a big surge in popularity, I doubt Dr. Paul will be in the race for the Republican nomination much longer. Although, Dr. Paul has said in the past that he would consider running as an independent. I certainly respect his years of military service as well as his years as a physician, however, the guy just comes across as a nut job in need of an asylum. However, he does raise some very valid Constitutional issues and "radical" ideas that are just crazy enough to work. But with him stating he'd like to get rid of several necessary government organizations, he just simply cannot be taken seriously.
