President Bush's top counterterrorism adviser flew to last week to praise that country's cooperation in the war on terrorism just days before Yemeni authorities reportedly pardoned and released one of the principal architects of the October 2000 bombing of the USS Cole.
You know, I wrote about this before, and there is an easy way to fix it. Simply find them and kill them all. When the Israeli's started hunting down members of Black September after the 1972 Olympic massacre, those responsible were terrified. They thought that any moment, they'd surely be killed. That's the same goal here. Keep them on edge at all times so they can't kill again, and then once found, put a bullet in the back of their heads.
It sounds extreme to some, but this guy is directly responsible for the deaths of 17 American sailors who happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. So, if Yemen won't cover our backs when it comes to dealing with terrorists, then maybe we should take a tougher approach to the matter.

finding them and killing them -- extrajudicial killings, in other words -- is one tactic that could be used. but leaving aside the corrupting effect on our democracy of such tactics, i have to question the logical premise of your suggestion in terms of effectiveness. decades after israel's policy of assasination, tell me how well it has worked. the palestinians are not scared into submission. such brutality only inspires resistance. the only solution is a political deal, as has happened in northern ireland. violence can work -- but only at the cost of making us like them. maybe that does not matter to you, but to me, who values morality and civilization, it matters deeply.
The idea isn't to scare Al-Qaeda it's to remove someone from the planet who killed 17 US sailors.
It's not about Al-Qaeda's "resisting" us, they are already doing that, it's to hunt down and capture or kill as many of them as possible.
Israel is dealing with a civilian population, we're dealing with a terrorist organization. Big difference.
