Yesterday, I spent my day with my friends and family, celebrating the independence of my home.
If you are unfamiliar with WHY we celebrate, perhaps a trip over to the Smithsonian, or a simple Google search would do you some good.
When you hear others talk about how America is turning into a police state, show them what real freedom is. Show them how they are able to speak their mind without fear of arrest or repercussion. Show them how they can go anywhere in the country without having to "show your papers".
Tell them of the sacrifices that men like Washington, Jefferson, and Adams made to be able to live as free men and plant the seeds that would become a nation of unprecedented power and generosity.
There's a reason why people look to America when bad things happen, when they want to build a better life for themselves, and live with freedoms they've never had before: We offer a blank slate. You can be as successful as you'd like. You can't get that in any other nation on Earth.
Remember, there are people who make this nation a better place to live besides a soldier who defends it. Teachers, businessmen, cops, firemen, construction workers, musicians, artists, even the guy who simply works the toll booth at a bridge. These are your fellow countrymen and women. They are the ones who bring together a rich culture that is enjoyed by everyone.
