So "Scooter" Libby won't be going to jail after all. President Bush commuted his sentence so he can now avoid jail all together. However, he will still have his probation and his $250,000 fine in place. While many Republican's are cheering this, and of course Democrats are denouncing it, I think it was a wrong move to make on the part of President Bush.
Let me explain: Libby was indicted, tried, and convicted for his crimes. He was sentenced accordingly by a judge. Perhaps if the sentence was 10 years or something and Bush brought it down to 5, then I could make an argument about the commutation. However, since Libby will not be serving ANY time and a judge said there should be jail time and an appeals court said he should not be free while pending appeal.
It shows very bad judgment and gives the impression that he was pardoned because Bush and Cheney were in on the plot to leak the CIA operatives identity, or that Libby knows something and would go public if he were to go to jail. Either way it does not instill confidence in Bush's ability to remain fair and respect the letter of the law.

*REMAIN* FAIR AND RESPECT THE LETTER OF THE LAW.
Yes, that's what I said. But thanks for the additional punctuation and capital letters. It really draws attention to the sentence.
